NASCAR: Who should be in my fifth position

There are 43 hot and sweaty drivers on the NASCAR circuit. I’ve chosen four I like best — now I’m looking for another and need your help. Who will be my fifth favorite Nextel Cup driver?

I’m celebrating this great new season by reorganizing my selection of Top Five favorite drivers. There’s an open spot on my list and I’m hoping for some input on which driver should fill fifth position of my lineup.

Numero Uno: Ryan Newman
Some of Ryan Newman handles in sports circles have been Pole Sitter and Rocket Man due to his record breaking pole wins. His 2002 placement as Rookie of the Year puts him sequentially between Kevin Harvick (2001) and Jamie McMurray (2003). The threesome would be a casting dream for the likes of Chi Chi LaRue. Woof! Ryan is originally from Indiana and is a whopping 5’11” and 207 lbs. Behind the wheel for Penske Racing he drives the blue Alltel #12 Dodge Charger. Ryan is a beefy, but modest, 30 year-old with a clean-shaven face and rounded boyish features. We have already seen him win the 2008 Daytona 500 this season which has positioned him as a very strong candidate for a Nextel championship win.

Numero Dos: Tony Stewart
It’s no coincidence that one of my favorite actors and one of my favorite drivers have very similar personality traits. Much like Russell Crowe, Tony Stewart is infamous for instigating brawls and for candidly defending himself in the press. Like Crowe, he’s also known for his unmistakable talent. Tony is a 36 year old bear, originally from Indiana, who drives the #20 Home Depot Toyota Camry for Joe Gibbs Racing. Tony is a fierce driver on the track! At 5’9” and 190 lbs, his solid looks and rough driving skills helped him make 1999 Rookie of the Year. In his subsequent years he’s become a two-time championship winner. We anticipate many more championship wins from the Old Spice driver despite his occasional rift in the field.

Numero Tres: Martin Truex Jr.
Martin Truex Jr. from New Jersey is a Busch Series champion. He’s 28, 5’11” and 185lbs, short chestnut brown hair and usually a sexy tuft of hair on his chin. His hobbies include hunting and fishing. It’s obvious the guy likes to fish. He drives the #1 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet Monte Carlo for Dale Earnhardt Inc. In hand from my recent trip at DEI was a cool new maroon BPS hat, which commemorates his first win, and also a medium sized t-shirt emblazoned with #1 — it’s truly the next best thing to Budweiser gear.

Numero quattro: Kevin Harvick
Kevin Harvick is considered one of the most passionate drivers on the track. The 32 year-old fair-haired 5'10, 175lbs 32year-old Californian (with an extraordinary smile) drives the #29 Shell/Pennzoil Chevrolet as part of the Richard Childress Racing Team. RCR’s talented team recently triumphed this year with combined first, second, and third place wins at the Food City 500 in Bristol. Kevin finished second. Number 5: Undetermined (I welcome suggestions).

Coming off my list:

Elliot Sadler 6’2”, 224lbs (up from 195lbs), 32 year-old driver of the #19 car was once at the very top of my list. During the 2002 to 2004 seasons I was an ardent fan of Elliot. I’d gone to many of his autograph sessions during those years. In person Elliot is tall, olive-skinned and has a welcoming persona. The combination of all those great traits and his charming Virginian accent always had me smitten like a gushing teenager. Normally I can keep composed in the presence of handsome men. But somehow I’d get goofy while looking at him. Just a few years ago he was the sweet eye-candy in the M&M’s car. Now… he’s dropped off my list.

Why? The truth is that I’ve lost interest. Since 2004 his grooming skills, his overall appearance and, sadly, his performance on the track has been caught in an unusual down-force. I don’t see much improvement with his having McDonald’s as his new sponsor. Those McBurgers may lead to an eventual double-chin. Bye, bye Elliot. I sold my 2002 Motorcraft #21 autographed tee-shirt on eBay. I’ll miss you. You were my first.

Personally Bobby Labonte rocks my world. That square jaw and s/p hair makes me want to kneel down.

However, looking at your first four picks I think I'd suggest Casey Mears. I might be a bit young but between you and your other picks I bet you could teach him the ropes.

Also, he's behind in points and I think he needs a true blue fan like yourself to give him that extra energy he needs to pull out...well not pull out but move forward.

I kinda like Denny Hamlin. Looking down the road: David Ragan and even further is Colin Braun. No matter what, I m glad Harvick is already there! I dont know what it is, but he gets my engine running every time I see him.

So I debated a LONG time about who should be fifth. David Ragan, Casey Mears and Patrick Carpentier were my obvious choices. Jimmie Johnson--yeah, he has a hot face, though, I think his crew cheif Chad is a lot hotter. Unfortunately I can't pick Johnson. My simple respect and loyalty prevent me from choosing a direct sponsor rival of Tony. Yep, I shop Home Depot. HD is like a comfortable shoe.

To my surprise nobody mentioned Jamie McMurray. He's a little fem at times but I haven't seen a chiseled face and chin cleft that beautiful since Cary Grant--there's a parralel there so look for it.

Then it was Adam who pointed out the obvious. Adam reminded me that there's another red-head besides Dale. There is nothing on this planet I like more than red-heads. Brian Vickers currently ranks number 19 in NEXTEL points, but someone please tell that boy that he's my obvious fifth hottest driver.
