Home team: Washington DC's Rainbow Spinnakers Sailling Club
Showcasing LGBT athletic clubs around the globe.
Whether you're an experienced sailor or just want to try out your sea legs every once in awhile, the Rainbow Spinnakers in the Washington DC/Baltimore area is just the group for you.
Rainbow Spinnakers is a predominately gay and lesbian sailing club with a few hundred members in the Greater Washington, DC / Baltimore area.
"You don't need to know how to sail to join us, in fact, you can just come along for the ride" says Mark Hertzendorf, a Rainbow Spinnaker board member. "However, if you want we will be happy to give you informal instruction."
"Sailing events often take place on the Potomac river just south of Alexandria, VA at Belle Haven Marina. Another favorite place for us to sail is in Baltimore Harbor. In the past we have also sailed from Annapolis and Solomons, MD. The frequency and timing of events depends on the availability of skippers and coordinators."
"Sails on the Potomac typically last 2 hours, sails on the Chesapeake are usually 4-6 hours."
