Spectator sport: Former Indy 500 winner Dan Wheldon

From the gifted to the gorgeous, Spectator sport showcases athletes at the top of their game.

Dan Wheldon's name may not be as recognizable as Al Unser, Bobby Rahal, or Mario Andretti but the one thing he has in common with these racing legends is an Indy 500 win.

He's now aiming at the 2008 Indy title and has a good shot at grabbing it.  He secured the #2 starting slot with a blazing 226.110 mph qualifier.

"I love speed. I have six or seven cars at home including an Aston Martin DB9 and the new Jaguar, the XKR. But what drives me more than the speed is the competition."

Since his debut season in 2002, Wheldon has been progressively racking up checkered flags.  With over 80 career starts, he's amassed 14 wins and is hoping to make it 15 at this year's running of the Indy 500.

What I also like about this guy is he's not ashamed to speak up for what he likes.  When this British racer was asked what he likes about America, without blinking he responded with "it's easier to get laid". You've got to love that honesty!

Looking forward to seeing Dan and all the other hot drivers at the track tomorrow!

Did I miss the part where he is gay because if he isn't then why the hell is this on gay.com. It sure as hell isn't a racing story that some gays might like. The whole thing is about his looks.

Ray, I take offense at your comment. I am a racing fan and I enjoyed the piece. So what would make a good racing story for gays?

RAY...way to go!! The only reason this story appears on gay.com is because of this guy's looks. All things being equal, if he were an average joe with non descript looks his mug would never grace this site. JESSE, you can take offense all you want but if you think this guy is featured on a gay website beacause of his racing skills, you clearly have not been paying attention.

Slurp. I'd hit that. ; )

Jesse a good racing story for gays would be one that actually talks about racing. This one didn't at all.

Did anyone even READ this article? It talks about his Indy 500 win, where he's headed next, has a quote from him, mentions his wins once more, talks about his honest personality, and ends with a comment about the photos. While he may be on here b/c he is hot, the article isn't about his looks. Its about him racing. Besides, how often do you see ugly, untalented people in the news, gay or straight?

would love to spill into those racing overalls, makes me feel well horny

Well, I am really surprised about the mistery man (dressed black of) he could be an star movie or model. I like him very much (I am man)

Elan

Redneck sport and ridiculous black open shirted outfit. Next

Nothing here relating to gay culture, why is this here. Not a big racing fan, who cares. If he were gay it would have a little more meaning to being here. Quit wasting our time with this drivel..

mike Maz "redneck sport"? You are confusing Indy Car with NASCAR!
