Spectator sport: Olympic preview of Michael Phelps
(Getty Images)
From the gifted to the gorgeous, Spectator sport showcases gay and straight athletes at the top of their game.
It takes just a quick glance at his past achievements, you realize just how special swimmer Michael Phelps of the USA is.
But before you read just a few of these unbelievable achievements, we want to point out this 6'4", 195# University of Michigan athlete did all this before his 23 birthday.
Olympic Games
6 Gold Medals
2 Bronze Medals
World Championships
18 Gold Medals
3 Silver Medals
17 time World Champion
Pan Pacific Championships
8 Gold Medals
3 Silver Medals
38 US National titles
23 world records
Michael Phelps is just one of the many athletes we will be hearing a lot about in the coming months leading up to the Summer Olympics in Beijing, China.
Widely considered to be the fastest swimmer today and with more achievements than could be listed here, Phelps is poised to take home at least as much gold as he did in Athens in 2004.
Since the 2004 Olympic Games, he has been shattering world and national records at almost every event he attends. To date, he is the only swimmer to have set 5 individual world records at one International event.
However, not all has been shining glory. The Olympic champ was sentenced to 18 months probation for a DUI back in December of 2004. Looking back at this he says:
Having my DUI happen was a learning experience. Being in a college environment, it's my job to try to help make sure people don't make the same mistake I made.
Check out his website for the most up-to-date information.

The real question is, "How many boys has he done before the age of 23?" And will he be switching to the non-gay friendly one piece swimsuit?

So I work at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, and Phelps was here last wee. And I got to say ,unfortunately, the boy is straight as an arrow. Apparently he slept with a couple of the lady swimmers that were on campus from Michigan. But the boy is beautiful.

wow, talk about shady journalism... on the front page "Michael Phelps has a dark side..." and then the DUI. It's just bad technique to imply something to capture attention. F.

his body is sexy; but its his confidence that really turns us on...
Posted by: Klein888 | May 25, 2008 at 11:39 PM
yea really, if a DUI is a "dark side" i'm already in HELL, lmao.

Yeah is absolute GORGEOUS too bad he bats for the hetero team
Posted by: Steve | May 26, 2008 at 01:57 AM
I just hope that others would regard Phelps as a unique human being rather than some sort of an astray...

Gay.com would do better if it would find more eloquent writers for it's pages.
However, when one must consider his or her audience for that purpose then this may be the best that "it" can get.
Posted by: zarxo | May 26, 2008 at 08:00 AM
He's ugly! He's another heterogoof with no elegance! They're trying to make him sexy, evidently beyond his own desire, and it's just not working.
He's a very talented athlete, but just because he has a six-pack doesn't make him a sex-god. Let's just support him for what he is.
And you DARE to call ONE DUI "his dark side"? You consider that journalism?
Posted by: fuseologue | May 26, 2008 at 08:00 AM
Too bad Gay.com uses outrageous headlines to gain public attention when most of the time it does not amount to a hill of beans.TRASH MEDIA I'd say--no better than THE NATIONAL ENQUIRER.

A "DUI" certainly doesn't imply a dark side. You can get one of those from just a couple beers. How lame to imply that he's some sort of freak in the shadows just to get us to read the cheesy article. He's cute but cute guys are a dime a dozen.
Posted by: Brian | May 26, 2008 at 10:15 AM
He is really not that goodlooking. Nice bod, but the face is so so. But I would not kick him out of bed. I've seen way hotter swimmers at my club.
Posted by: Raymond Anderson | May 26, 2008 at 11:07 AM
He's young and built but not very attractive. When his youth disapears over the years, he will just be one more funny looking guy.
Please, a DUI is not a dark side, just a slip-up by a college kid.

why are you playing to the dumbest of homos? Give us real news, and talk to the intelligence of the best of us, not to the gossiby bitchiness of the worst of us.
Posted by: Marc | May 26, 2008 at 03:55 PM
Comon guys this is so stupid how is the idiot that puts this together darkside LOL joke did you know that in DC just the amount of alcohol in listerine is enough to get you in jail zero tolerance. He is cute very cute but what you guys are doing is just terrible. Get real

A DUI is very serious to some people. He lost me as a fan for that. It is risking others lives for your fun. No excuses, no free passes for that one.
Posted by: PC | May 26, 2008 at 08:52 PM
Harsh comments here. He's not a gorgeous hunk, you're right. But he's at least average. Ugly? waaaay over the top.
And anyway, if he were amazingly hot, it would likely come with a healthy dose of attitude.
I do agree with one point: not sure why every athlete needs to be turned into a sex god. Phelps looks pitifully awkward in that role.
Posted by: SG | May 26, 2008 at 11:28 PM
Michael is hot but still a person with exception talent. If we were all judged by mistakes we've committed, everyone and I mean everyone would be screwed. I'm just glad that after his little speed bump in life he could continue on and be the best he can be.
Oh yeah and as to the journalism approach, I think its pretty low to dig up a story after four years just to have a print.
Posted by: jrobi | May 27, 2008 at 05:19 AM
OMG...I would have him "anytime" he is SO DAM HOT!!!!
Posted by: Morgan | May 27, 2008 at 06:16 AM
This is just another STUPID headline that the media uses. Media now a days is CRAP, sooo one sided. They tell you what they want you to hear and thats it. Just like the music we hear. Sooo much out there, Why not emphasis on the GOOD and not on the BAD.
He's very talented and will watch him in China, I think there are a lot of people that have done worse than get a DUI.
GAY.COM BAD REPORTING, i'm disappointed
Posted by: Jacob | May 27, 2008 at 09:18 AM
this is sexy.
Posted by: Jeremy Thomas | May 27, 2008 at 04:28 PM
He is a talented swimmer, and I am proud of him..too bad he just can't kiss right...But bring the gold man, he can do it!
Posted by: Marc | May 27, 2008 at 07:02 PM
he's no god by any measure, except for when he's in the water. to realize that that lanky man, who is considered a physically 'poor' athlete in term of the technicalities, enters the water and does what he does... that is beautiful.
if i can find a hint of that sort of place, where no matter what i am or what i'm observed to be, when i get there i am faster and stronger than anything else... that would be unbelievable.
Posted by: jayson | May 28, 2008 at 01:34 AM
what do you expect from gay.com?
this webpage is a shady hookup site for people with nothing better to do...me included.
i don't think i've ever seen any articles on here with redeeming value...this is the equivalent of teenbeat for 50 yr old homos...
but yeah i'd like to get cock from hot athletes too so I'll keep cumming back!
Posted by: ben pee | May 29, 2008 at 01:46 AM
Yeah, he's decidedly ugly. Look at his bulbous nose, those ears, that yokel mouth that never closes! And for how much we swims, he should have a better body...shoooz.
Anyway, he plays modest but he's not...don't let his goofy exterior fool you.
