3-time defending champion Rafael Nadal made it four-in-a-row this weekend (tying Bjorn Borg's record) when he thrashed a seemingly helpless Roger Federer in the French Open final 6-1, 6-3, 6-0, the most lopsided Grand Slam final since 1977.
The Spanish lefty dissected the world no. 1 with surgical precision and dominated in every facet of the game: winners 46-31, errors 7-35, first serve percentage 75-69, and converted 8 of 17 break chances to Federer's 1 of 4. Rafa now owns a staggering 28-0 record at Roland Garros and has only lost twice on clay since April 2005.
On the women's side, a new queen of tennis was crowned when Ana Ivanovic defeated Dinara Safina 6-4, 6-3 to become the first Serbian woman to win a Grand Slam. And today, she becomes the first Serbian ever to hold the top ranking in tennis. Sporting the best forehand in the women's game and improved mobility and fitness, Ivanovic was at her aggressive best hitting 41 winners and converting 5 of 9 break point chances against her Russian opponent.
Both ballers will now set their sights on the third Slam of the year, Wimbledon, and will enter the All-England Club as top favorites for the title. The grass-court major begins on June 23.
