Greco-Roman wrestling-not for women in 2008?

There's hardly a reason to go into a dramatic lesbian outburst at my discovery that Greco-Roman Wrestling, is not open to women as an Olympic sport.  Oh, the inequality we still suffer!

I'm too old and fabulous and doing my own thing to give a good freak out, and besides, why should I, when Ali Bernard, Clarissa Chun, Randi Miller, and Marcie VanDusen, are headed to Beijing to throw themselves down on the mat, if not the Greco-Roman variety.  There is still no better way to get a leg up than by getting in there, and well, putting a leg up!

I'm carrying the torch for these four women who followed their hearts and their talent all the way to China, to do what they love, regardless of the barriers that remain.  They are called 'unknowns' right now, but not for long, I'm sure.  I plan to follow their Olympic dream all the way to the closing ceremonies. You go, girls!

I think in this day and age there shouldn't be a women's only and men's only competitions. If you're going to feature a sport in the Olympics it should be for both sexes.

It's all perception of the sport at this point. Why isn't there men's synchronized swimming?

Come on people, this is the 21st century. Women have more than shown themselves to be equals in every task. The only thing I haven't known a women to be able to do is produce sperm. If they could, you straight boys would be in serious trouble.

Wouldn't they, though? My question as a sports enthusiast is: in, say, a sport like wrestling, how would the weight requirements be met? would lower weight wrestlers be kept out of the sport because they can't physiologically grow taller and heavier? i think this is a great topic-i hope the discussion continues!

wrestling is good sport

Women have equal rights in every field of life. It is really important that women should be part of every field. Greco-Roman wrestling should be part of Olympic, it is the 21st century and we have to give them same opportunities which we give to men.

Hi,
I am new to this blog, for the 1st time ever the USA Greece Roman Wrestling Team won the team title at the 2007 World Championships. They did this without their defending World Champion, who was suspended for a year.

Women should participate in every field of life. We have to give them equal opportunity if want to get rapid progress in every field of life so Greco-Roman wrestling should be part of Olympics.

Nice photo selection. It proves these two girls could well wrestle the Greco-Roman style. And so can the other girls.

In fact, couldn't greco-roman be considered just a part of the freestyle?
