Here Come the Straights! UNFAIR! UNFAIR!

Gays kicking out the straights. Wow! It really all does come full-circle, doesn’t it?

As your diligent sports-blogging servant, it is my duty to keep my thumb on the pulse of the Queer sports nation.  And because of this, I have learned that a simple, weekend-warrior, “let’s play for beers and blow-jobs" Gay Softball league has disqualified a winning team for having "too many straights" on their team.

Let’s let them explain it. Here’s a ridiculous quote:

This isn't the first team to be disqualified for this reason, and it won't be the last. While some are calling the policy discriminatory, its intentions are good. Sports is still a relatively homophobic place. I was watching a high school football practice earlier this week and heard the coach and players taunting one another with "girl" and "sissy." This was in Manhattan. Sports is not a friendly place for gay people, for the most part.

Or, it seems, in your world, at least for straight people.

I thought that the goal of life in America was integration. Ya know, one country, one people, one melting pot, people learning to work and live with each other.  Integration is predicated upon, among many other things, acceptance. CLEARLY, this butt-load (Ooo!) of straights accepts Queers, accepts being with Queers, competing with Queers, being friends with Queers, etc., etc. I didn’t think that the goal was to perpetually live in a Queer-only world, and thus to perpetuate Queer vs. Straight separatism. Silly me.

However, I am tempted to think differently. Maybe it was a furor over the fact that all these straight opponents were, a priori, ineligible for the traditional post-game "loser scrubs the winner in the showers", ritual which is so integral to the game. Or, maybe there is something much more strategic going on here. Maybe the Gay team felt that it was unfair to compete against a bunch of guys that don’t throw like girls.

NAGAA guidelines are in place to keep the essence of the league the same: a community for gay athletes.

Quite frankly too, your little comment at the end "Maybe the Gay team felt that it was unfair to compete against a bunch of guys that don’t throw like girls." just shows your own internalized homophobia and honestly your complete lack of knowledge of the league.

Your sports posts are obviously done by someone who does not follow sports. Your news is always late, and you didn't even know that "catch" by that girl was fake (even though that was in mainstream news).

You're just a hack, and posts like this are a disgrace to gay and lesbian athletes.

"throw like a girl."

I'd like to see you out on the field.

The problem with having more than two straight players (that you are clearly too dense to understand) is these players are picked to pad the rosters in order to win. This is an amateur league. I've seen teams with straight guys on their roster that have played or at least tried out for Triple A baseball teams (look up Triple A, 'cause I get the feeling you don't know what that means). That is hardly fair to put a bunch of semi-pro straight players on a team in a gay league... especially when the emphasis is on gay community and recreation, not on simply winning at all costs.

I think you need to really think about what it means to play in a gay league and why too many straights are a concern, because you obviously don't seem to grasp the situation well.

First of all, I didn't write the post about the ballgirl catching the ball. Someone else did. The bylines of each post say who wrote them.

Secondly, you know for a fact that the straights on the team in question were, indeed, retired semi-pro or AAA ball players? No? Didn't think so.

Third, your reasoning - that it opens the door for "ringers" - was absolutely NOT the reasoning given by the league in question, as evidenced by their quote in my blog. Their reasoning was that since straight society acts homophobically in sports, then they have the right to act heterophobically in their gay league. That's their quote, not mine.

Step out of your "Gays-only cocoon" and into the real world, where straights and gays and lesbians and all of us are trying to make the world a better place by living and working - and yes playing - together, and then I think you'll understand what I am saying.

I've played in gay and straight leagues. I've played in mixed leagues, which were mixed by default. We all just played. Imagine that. I have no issue whatsoever with creating "communities for gays". It seems to me that what is needed are communities where Queers can be Queers. Clearly, a gay league, where straights - no matter how many play - are the minority, and are playing WITH GAYS, are friends WITH GAYS - constitutes a safe community for gays. Tell me, how does the inclusion of straights negate that? Are they toxic? It's the same reasoning that has given us hundreds of years of "no gays allowed, no blacks allowed", and so on.

And I don't throw like a girl. I dress like one.

Where are you getting this quote from?

I read your response and couldn’t help but laugh.

You don’t seem to understand the reasons for having A GAY LEAGUE. I can’t fathom why that is so difficult for you to grasp.

If they don’t like it then they can play in another league.

Plus, I was not specifically talking about D2 when I referred to the Triple A players. I’ve seen that on a different team which for the sake of not creating drama I am not going to name for you.

You’ve played in mixed leagues. Great! Send those guys over there. Don’t whine when they knew the rules and ignored them anyway causing them to be stripped of the championship on a gay league.

That’s like complaining that I as a Caucasian am ineligible for the United Negro College Fund.
It’s silly and juvenile… just like your “shower” comments and your sexist and homophobic comment about “throw like girls.”

Don’t lash out at me ‘cause you posted something inane to the internet.

You have only yourself to blame for your sophomoric dribble.

Let's see if I can get this right. You "know of other leagues where this happened" but can't name them. Hmmm...I believe you!

Secondly, I explained what I believe to be a proper purpose for a Gay League - creating a safe community for gays to play sports. This is not dependent on being 100% gay only. And clearly, D2 agrees, since they allow straights. They don't - as you seem to want - only allow gays to play.

Third: just how many straights are allowed? And which crypto-facist bean-counter came up with that equation?

Fourth: White people - and yellow people and red people - are eligible to receive financial support to attend Historically Black Coileges and Universities. I am white and I received a scholarship to Howard University Law School in the late 80s, which I subsequently rejected as I went somewhere else to grad school.

Peace. Out.

It is really simple. The rules are clear and every team knows them. They played with these rules the entire season. They broke the rules. My guess is that it wasn't accidental. If they only had two straight players during the season, which is the league rule, but more than two for the world series, it seems quite logical that they added this player(s) just for the tournament. Know and follow the rules or don't play.

It is a common practice at the "Gay World Series" to stack teams, it becomes more of an All-star team from each city. I don't disagree with this tactic, as it makes the level of play higher at the World Series.
However, the rules are the rules and every team knows the rules. There are plenty of "Straight" leagues around the country and by limiting the number of straight players it creates a more relaxed environment for gay players to be themselves. (for the most part).
There really is no argument here, that's why there are rules.

But I have to make a point about the post containing "Throw like girls". Obviously you have never seen A, B or C level play at the world series. It is a high level of play and even the Lesbians don't "Throw like girls". Your statement really is a little homophobic and there is no place for it, especially if you are gay.

Yes. I'm a great big homophobe. Just ask my boyfriend.

From the tone of your responses to someone who disagrees with you just shows that you are a self-hating fag Moag. The throw like a girl comment was meant to be a slight and you know it. The point of predominately gay activities is a place to be with others like us. Straights are welcome, but until there is no discrimination is their leagues we deserve our own as well.

Self-hating fag? I thought I was a homophobe. Can't keep track...

So, until there is no discrimination in straight leagues, we'll discriminate in ours. That'll learn'em!

Peace. Out.

Since anyone can play anywhere I am going to join every event in the next special olympics. If they try to deny me of any sport I will sue for discrimination.
