Tampa Bay Rays, young, cute, and in the playoffs!

Now that the Tampa Bay Rays are the American League East champions of Major League Baseball, it's time to look closer at the players and see who is attracting attention from the growing number of GLBT fans.

As a long-time fan who has suffered through 10 losing seasons, it's nice to see others appreciate the efforts of our young( and attractive) professional baseball team. They've been playing in downtown St Petersburg for all those ten years in relative obscurity until this year. In 2008 the Tampa Bay Devil Rays dropped the "Devil" from their name, changed their uniform colors and adding several key players.

University of Wisconsin students get professional help tackling the fear of National Coming Out Week.  Former defensive tackle for the Green Bay Packers, Esera Tuaolo, is scheduled to speak to students about his life as a closeted gay athlete.

Author of "Alone in the Trenches" where he personally details the difficulties gay and lesbian athletes face, Tuolo struggled for many years with his sexuality until he publicly came out in 2002.

1918, Revisited

It's time to go out on a limb (or, in my case, a ledge) and pick the MLB post-season winners. So, here we go:

Tennis: Roddick, Tsonga, Jankovic, & Kirilenko all weekend winners

Andy Roddick - Beijing

A-Rod earned his third title this season (San Jose, Dubai) when he struggled to beat Israel's Dudi Sela 6-4, 6-7(6), 6-3 in Beijing. Afterwards, the American baller donated $25,000 of his winnings to the Chinese Tennis Association to help with the earthquake recovery in the Sichuan Province:

I would really like to contribute a part of my prize money to those families affected, to those who lost everything they had, suffered painful injuries or lost loved ones in the earthquake. It’s my great honor to be in Beijing to work with CTA to assist those kids who are in need. It is an athlete's privilege and responsibility to give back.

Great moment - kudos to you A-Rod!

NU vs. Iowa: Purple Trumps Pink!

Northwestern_wildcats_76848304 (Getty Images)
The Northwestern Wildcats hit the road Saturday, went to the University of Iowa, and beat the Hawkeyes. NU is 5-0 for the 1st time in 40 years, which, for me and mine, is reason to celebrate. However, there is even more reason – as Purple has trumped Pink!

The best catch in baseball this season, and it's by the ballgirl

This has to be the best catch I've seen this whole season.  Seriously, this was amazing in a Jackie Chan like way. The only thing is, it was the ballgirl who made the catch!

UPDATE: As has been pointed out by a number of people, this video may not be real, but it's still pretty fun to watch.
