Charlie Weis: This Guy’s Gotta Go
Charlie Weis, he of the “when I am Notre Dame head coach, we will have a decided schematic advantage in every game we play”, has just finished the season 6-6. 6-6, against a horribly weak schedule. 6-6, without beating any team of consequence. 6-6, after getting WAXED by USC, 38-3 (thank GOD for that 4th quarter field goal when the Irish were already down over 30. That sure saved some face, huh?).
Charlie Weis was the grossly overrated offensive coordinator for the New England Patriots before coming to Notre Dame. How do I know he was grossly overrated? Because, New England’s offense actually got better after he left, and is currently one of the hottest things in the NFL, even without Tom Brady. Clearly, Brian Belichick is in charge of that offense. And, clearly, Charlie Weis knows nothing about winning on the college level.
In his first year at the Dome, the Irish had a great record. That was when Weis was able to use Tyrone Willingham’s players. You remember Willingham: Notre Dame fired him unceremoniously after a sub-par couple of seasons in order to get the GREAT CHARLIE WEIS.
So, Charlie Weis, who never played football (but eats like one) and was merely a student and season ticket holder at Notre Dame in the ‘80s, got a 10-year contract extension after one season using Willingham’s players. Those players graduated, in come Weis’ players, and the team has sucked ever since.
Now, what has happened to that “decided schematic advantage in every game that we play?” Well, last night, that advantage managed all of 41 yards passing and all of 50 yards rushing against a real national powerhouse, USC.
Get rid of this clown. Now.
