Gamblers Beware: Sunday's NFL Results cost you a Ton of Money
I don’t bet on sports anymore, because when I used to bet on sports I always lost money. Always. And thank God I stopped, as yesterday’s NFL results would have sent me out pan-handling. Specifically, two games – the Eagles/Bengals and the Steelers/Chargers – were bookie heaven.
The Philadelphia Eagles pulled an amazing rabbit-out-of-the-hat trick yesterday, managing to TIE the hapless Cincinnati Bengals 13-13. There hasn’t been a tie in the NFL since 2002, so long that I am sure many part-time NFL viewers didn’t even realize that an NFL game could end in a tie. I mean, Donovan McNabb, Eagles QB, didn’t know an NFL game could end in a tie – and he’s the friggin’ QB playing the game! Since the Eagles were massive favorites in this one, the bookies get the push and the bookies get the bucks.
The other Pennsylvania NFL team – the Steelers – pulled off an even stranger outcome, with a lot of help from the refs. The Steelers won the game on a last minute field goal. Well, kind of. The final, official score has them winning by a field goal, 11-10 over the Chargers. But they actually won by a TD, as they returned a no-time-remaining desperation scramble by the Chargers that was fumbled and returned into the Chargers’ end zone. However, due to massive confusion by the refs, the TD was incorrectly negated and the final score stood at 11-10, failing to cover the spread and, once again, enriching the bookies to the tune of a $67 MILLION swing!
By the way, for those interested, the final score of the Steelers-Chargers game (11-10) was the first time in the entire history of the NFL that a game ended on a score off 11-10. First time ever.
Man, too bad I stopped gambling on football, as I would have loved a piece of that action. 11-10 was my weekly bet on score outcomes.
