Annika Sorenstam: Thanks for One Hell of a Career!
With the close of the 2008 LPGA season, golf is losing one of it’s greatest competitors of all times. Annika Sorenstam is retiring.
Annika ranks 1st all time among tournament victories with 90. She ranks 1st all time in career earnings, at over $22 million. She was the LPGA Player of the Year Eight Times; 6 years the winner of the annual lowest score average on the tour; and inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2003.
But one of the greatest moments in her professional life came in 2003, when she challenged the boys and took a sponsor’s exemption to compete in a PGA tournament. That pissed off so many old school, narrow-minded old farts that it mattered not whether she qualified or did not (she did not). She broke down a door, one that had been sealed since 1945.
She will go on to design courses, play in select seniors tournaments, and remain a force for golf – both men’s and women’s golf – for decades.
One hell of a player!
