College Football: BCS Rankings (11-30-08)
Well, Oklahoma is ahead of Texas in the latest BCS standings and headed to the Big 12 Championship game with an inside track to the national title. This is amazing since the Sooners lost to Texas earlier in the season. Oklahoma barely edged out the Longhorns with a .9351 BCS average. Texas’ BCS average is .9223. The Big 12 conference was forced to use its fifth tiebreaker rule (BCS standings) to determine which team will play Missouri on Saturday in Kansas City. Here is the seventh BCS poll:

1. Alabama 6. Utah
2. Oklahoma 7. Texas Tech
3. Texas 8. Penn State
4. Florida 9. Boise State
5. USC 10. Ohio State

The Bowl Championship Series (BCS) is a five-game arrangement for post-season college football that is designed to match the two top-rated teams in a national championship game and to create exciting and competitive matchups between eight other highly regarded teams in four other games.
The champions of the ACC, Big East, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-10 and SEC conferences automatically qualify for BCS games each year. One team from among the champions of the C-USA, MAC, Mtn. West, Sun Belt, or the WAC conferences automatically qualify for a BCS game if either:
A. Such team is ranked in the top 12 of the final BCS Standings, or,
B. Such team is ranked in the top 16 of the final BCS Standings and its ranking in the final BCS Standings is higher than that of a champion of a conference that has an annual automatic berth in one of the BCS bowls.
The following is the schedule for the BCS bowls in 2009:
January 1 - FedEx Orange Bowl
January 1 - Rose Bowl Presented by Citi
January 2 - Allstate Sugar Bowl
January 5 - Tostitos Fiesta Bowl
January 8 - FedEx BCS National Championship Game (Miami)
