Hockey: So What Were You Saying About "Sloppy Seconds" Mr. Avery?
Fashion fiending NHL star Sean Avery has apologized for recent inappropriate remarks he made in Canada that resulted in a 6-game suspension, without pay, from the Dallas Stars.
On Tuesday, Avery gathered reporters before the Stars' game against the Calgary Flames and made comments referencing his ex-girlfriend, actress Elisha Guthbert, and her relationship with Flames' defenseman Dion Phaneuf and also Rachel Hunter, who is currently engaged to LA Kings center Jarret Stoll:
Uh, I'm really happy to be back in Calgary. I love Canada.
I just want to comment on how it's become like a common thing in the NHL for guys to fall in love with my sloppy seconds. I don't know what that's about.
Enjoy the game tonight.
Guthbert has also been linked to Montreal Canadiens' Mike Komisarek.
Avery issued an apology and expressed remorse for his statement saying:
I should not have made those comments, and I recognize that they were inappropriate.
It was a bad attempt to build excitement for the game, but I am now acutely aware of how hurtful my actions were. I caused unnecessary embarrassment to my peers as well as people I have been close with in the past.
He also went on to say, "As many of you know, I like to mix it up on and off the ice from time to time but understand that this time I took it too far."
This isn't the first controversy for "the most hated man in hockey" and it won't be the last. I think someone looooves the spotlight!
