Gay Soccer: San Francisco Spikes
When we think of hot soccer players, David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo immediately come to mind. But when we think of hot GAY soccer players, our thoughts quickly went to the San Francisco Spikes. After viewing just a few of these images from Blake Tucker, can you say we're wrong.
The SF Spikes is one of the oldest and most successful gay soccer clubs in the world. It’s also full of some of the hottest soccer studs around - just check out their calendar!. All the images of the SF Spikes you see here are who photographed the calendar and it will give you a little clue what you'll get in the calendar.
Founded over 25 years ago, the club fields 2 full teams in local Bay Area leagues – one highly competitive, one recreational – and has a large group of members who practice each week for the fun and camaraderie of the club, but don’t compete on either team. Competitive, developing and new players alike find a home within their club - players in their early 20's to their mid 50's and from at least 12 different countries do!
In addition to competing in local leagues in the San Francisco Bay Area, the Spikes travel the country and the world to compete in tournaments against other gay soccer teams at the Quadrennial Gay Games, the annual IGLFA World Cup, and smaller tournaments around the United States. They’ve competed in London, Sydney, Copenhagen, Buenos Aires, and Cologne, as well as in New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Ft. Lauderdale, and Chicago… to name a few. Sound like fun?
"Playing with the Spikes, especially traveling to these tournaments, is such a great time! Many of us make these tournaments our vacation year after year after year." – Goalkeeper, club president and 9-year veteran Matthew Shambroom
"Being on the Spikes has not only introduced me to a ton of great new guys but it's allowed me to get out, run around and get better at playing soccer" - Midfielder Bobby Dunn
"Straight friends often ask me, "why a gay soccer team?" I think it's about enjoying a full expression of myself. Growing up as an athlete, it was hard and sometimes scary to balance the hyper-masculine world of boys' sports with my burgeoning gay sexuality. But as an adult soccer player on the Spikes, I don't have to do that. There is something really satisfying and whole about executing a hard tackle and then joking, "take that, guuuurl!" - 11 year veteran defender Ed Center

No thanks. Only the guy in the second pic with the furry chest and stomach looked "real" enough to even entertain anything sexual with. The rest of the guys looked like older twinks, and the guy with the white briefs in pic six looked silly with the visible stubble from his shaved chest -why men keep shaving their chests is beyond me. It's this feminine behavior that just keeps validating gay stereotypes.

Anon,
Be less critical. Everyone does what they find attractive, and everyone has a different flavor of attractive.
Be less pretentious. It's this feminine behavior that just keeps validating...
Wait a minute...

"It's this feminine behavior that just keeps validating gay stereotypes"
What a crock of shit!
It's promiscuous little faggots who can't keep their cock in their pants, or their legs closed that keep validating gay stereotypes.
Shaving ones chest is nothing but a personal preference/choice, similar to deciding to get a tattoo or piercing.

1st, 2nd, 3rd and last are all hot. the rest look like old Twinkies.

There are some who'll find a certain fastidiousness and attention to physical details appealing, and all through the spectrum to the guys who find the "regular" more naturally masculine men more so, and beyond either way. I'm lucky I can appreciate a man's appeal from many perspectives, though I too tend to be less interested in the "adult twinkie" look. We're lucky we have an amazing variety of men to choose from, as attested to by these pix.

Just wanted to say that there is something sexy about all the photos. Very hot group of guys. Would love to hang out at an underwear party with the team. :-)

Why are straight soccer players often hotter than gay ones? Plus, these photos aren't very imaginative.

Why does it have to be so freakin slutty? Geez it's so damn tacky, like I would have that up at work? I like the "calendar with hot guys" thing, just try not to be so, well, gay about it ya know?

dang...amazing how critical people are. the sf spikes organization offers a host of opportunities for gay men to play soccer locally, nationally and internationally against other gay teams. the calendar is way for the club to gain exposure AND to raise money to provide soccer balls for underprivileged children in third world countries. twinks? older twinks? what are you talking about? unfortunately, a sad superficial assessment. consider following the link to the calendar site and the team site. you'll see. every man featured in this calendar is a real man (not a hired model pretending to be an athlete as is very often the case in other calendars), and more importantly every man in this calendar is a very talented gay athlete from the bay area taking steps to do something positive for the our local gay community and the world at large.

I have to agree with BrianStud about Anon's pretentiousness... and arrogance and ignorance. Not every man's DNA dictate a hairy chest. Mine doesn't and I'm 100% "real." Do you (Anon) really think that Ryo's -- an Asian -- does?? That's just buying into/selling the same type of gay stereotype: the hairy leather-daddy one. And why don't you check out the rest of the calendar before you go opening up your body-hair-filled yap: there are Misters April, August, and November, besides John and however many others among the 16 member team. "Me thinks the Lady doth protest too much."

Let's see, I should criticize how all of these men look because compared to them I look so much...well, I think I will just appreciate all of these guys and the photographer, and promise (again) to wear out that gym equipment in pursuit of looking even half so toned as these guys.

I don't know who it was that is doing the whining about the pics, but you need to stop bitching about the looks of some of these guys.
Having played for a gay team until the Montreal Outgames, I have played against the San Fransisco Spikes several times, including the 2003 IGLFA tournament in Golden Gate Park. All those pics are real. There are a lot of hot guys that play on that team, but there are also average people too. They don't all look that amazing.. but from a personal standpoint they were all nice guys...
Most the US gay soccer teams seem have a broad demographic of players from all sections of gay society. If you were to show up and join, you wouldn't have a problem fitting in, no matter what you do or where you are from. (I would suggest being in relative shape and actually knowing a little something about soccer though)
But seriously, if you are in the San Fransisco area, and like soccer and want to play with them, nothing should hold you back from doing it. Have fun!
