Sean Avery: Back with the NY Rangers
Well, life sometimes does go full circle. And, for Sean Avery – the NHL’s angriest man (if you go by certain people in the NHL), that full circle has led back to the New York Rangers.
Avery – a talented forward who can and has given teams real “boosts” when he gets on the ice – was a Ranger up until last offseason. After going down in the playoffs last year with a spleen injury, he signed a big contract with the Dallas Stars. In only 23 games with the Stars, he chalked up 3 goals and 7 assists. Not bad. So why was he cut from the team and the League?
Well, Sean went off verbally about his ex-girlfriend, a woman who was currently dating another NHL player. He went off on her and he went off on the other player. It was a tasteless set of comments, and it got him suspended and placed in an anger management course, then cut.
And leading the call to cut him from the team – and the league – was one John Tortorella, who at the time was a Canadian broadcaster. Tortorella slammed Avery. And, talk about full circle: Tortorella will now by Avery’s head coach on the New York Rangers.
Ain’t it funny?
Let’s see how long this lasts. Avery has a short fuse and seems to rub everyone the wrong way. I mean, you know that you are really despised when you – as a star player – get booted out of the League for making tasteless comments about an ex-girlfriend and another player.
Man, if those standards applied in the NFL, there would be no one playing for the Cowboys.
