Arm Chair GM's - Are You Ready To Pull The Trigger?

Vincent Lecavalier Melky Cabrera The fantasy baseball season is but an infant and already you are scrambling to figure out how to get more points. Every strategy you employed on draft day is staring back at you pointing a mocking finger of shame. Relax! There is a long way to go and a few quick fixes that may turn into long term solutions if you look in the scrap pile.

While outfielders are always a dime every two dozen, the Yankees have a pair that are undervalued and ignored in most leagues; Brett Gardner and Melky Cabrera. With Xavier Nady down for the season Melky is suddenly in a position to play a lot and is making the most of it with with four dingers. Gardner is only hitting .240, but with 8 runs scored and 4 quick steals he is a great speed option.

Swinging to the infield, Marco Scutaro is nifty pick-up. He can swing 2B, 3B and SS which makes him valuable for that alone. While his power surge won't likely last, right now he is offering a little bit of everything at the plate.

Before you laugh, Chien Ming Wang may wind up being a decent gamble. As horrific as he is now, the odds are he will rebound at some point. As he has been one of the most dumped players this year, if you can afford a spot to wait on him he can still potentially deliver 14 wins this year. Remember those three implosions he's suffered don't count against you, they are already in the books.

So far as players to move, take a look at what you can get for Josh Hamilton right now. Maybe he rebounds, maybe he doesn't, but right now he looks nothing like half the hitter he was last year. Big contracts do that to some guys.

Matt Holiday finds not hitting in Coors field really does drop your you numbers. Before everyone figures out he is more Robin than batman, ship him to your rival.

Dustin Pedroia apparently can't hit the high fastball in real life as well as in video games. He'll still give you some good numbers, but don't expect a repeat of last year. Move him to someone willing to overpay for what will likely be  the 5th or 6th best fantasy second baseman this year.

As tough as it is to say, move Vlad Guerrero for the best available player you can get. Someone will overpay based on his reputation. It appears as though the shoulder problems were bigger than thought in the off-season and he is not taking well to the part time DH role.

The season is so young the panic button shouldn't even be a thought yet, but if you got stuck overpaying for some of these guys or feel you have the ability to gamble a little, pull the trigger now and swing some deals. The next 2-3 weeks are your best opportunity to scoop up some hot players that may wind up being consistent providers, and the last chance to get your rivals to overpay on some struggling players based on last years performances.
