You go to any Brewers game and you'll see about 30% of the fans wearing the the kickass new (circa 2000) logo. The other 70% are wearing the old logo. Why? Is it some nostalgic link to the Brewers shitty past? Or perhaps it's the witty way the glove is composed of a 'm' and a 'b'. The logo is here. I personally can't figure it out. Even the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel had a poll asking "Which Brewers logo do you prefer?" The results were on par with what I see at the park.

How is anybody gonna make any money with a crappy payout like 3-1? Those are the odds for I Want Revenge to win. To really rack up on your bets, take a longshot like Mr. Hotstuff at 30-1 odds. Mr. Hotstuff? How the hell do you NOT take him?

Phil Hughes posted a great 2009 debut for the Yankees tossing 6 innings of two hit shutout baseball. While it is far too early to dub him King Phillip I, it raises some interesting possibilities that manager Joe Giraridi and the Steinbrenner "brain trust" are going to have to explore. How long can they keep operating under the status quo?

This week’s question might seem cut-and-dry; why would anyone think that pitchers should be allowed to throw at hitters instead of having umpires issue advanced warnings to stop this behavior? Well, for one, it’s been going on for over 100 years.
Our resident arguers take this question on. We have not allowed them to throw at each other’s heads, however.

We're through three weeks of action in the majors. Not everything is going according to plan, but when does it ever? The sample size of games (around 20) is so small, it's too soon to make any predictions worth betting the farm on. But it's not too soon to look back and comment:
- Florida's hot start wasn't for real. They have a great rotation, and some serious pop in their lineup. But they also have a scary bullpen and some serious K's in that lineup too. Their 11-1 start was helped out by playing the sad-sack Nationals. I smell third place for them.

The 9-3 start was cute. The 6-runs-per-game offense was exciting. That doesn't sound to outlandish to most folks, but if you followed the Padres anytime during the last 5 years, you'd know that this team has had to scratch and claw just to score 3 runs in a game, let alone 6. The team's hot start also came about some really good teams: the Dodgers, and an east-coast swing through New York and Philadelphia.

Football has been a swamp of misery in the Bay Area for the better part of seven years now. Neither Oakland or San Francisco has made the playoffs since 2002 But the 49ers at least have some optimism building now, with the hire of Mike Singletary, a rapidly-improving defense, and a 4-1 finish to last year. Nobody seems to think the Raiders are anywhere close to contention, and Saturday's draft exemplified why.
When you own the 7th pick in the draft, you're supposed to pick the best available player, regardless of need. You can be excused for choosing a need player over the best player, if the need player is almost as good. The Raiders chose Darrius Heyward-Bey, a wide receiver out of Maryland. Not only was he not the best available player left, he wasn't even the best receiver left!
