Nike and Naked Running: Time to Start a National Movement!

I have been running for about 20 years.  I generally don't like to run; it hurts my joints badly and it is boring as hell.  So, I am always seeking new ways to make running more interesting.

FOUND IT!

Not only am I going to be starting a Nike Running Natural Club here in Chicago, I am going to start a nationwide movement behind this, then travel around the country to make sure all the local chapters are abiding by the spirit and the letter of the clubs' rules.  Well, actually, there will only be one rule.

Let's see if you can guess what that rule will be...

Naked running may sound like fun, but nothing beats nude wrestling for muscle on muscle body contact and sweaty intense action.

Running is hell on joints, but it's perfectly fine for muscles. Though, on all accounts, biking is much better...and there's are several nude cycling events.

Hilarious videos! We have a nudist Hilton Hotel not too far from our house. And there are nudist beaches on both Canadian Coasts ... so I don't see why you shouldn't have naked running.

Although I suppose it would be a radical idea in the USA (Americans are so anal when it comes to nudity & sexuality) so I guess Nike knew what they were doing when they wanted to 'stand out' with their commercial.

I've been a long distance runner since
I was aged 13 and the benefits of feeling naked are way better than actually being naked. your boys downstairs (should) need some support. it's not common but it is possible to have a medical emergency down there called torsion of the testicles which I've heard is quite painful. either way, it looks fun and I'd probably do it. as far as running being unhealthy and less healthy than biking I'm pretty sure those are false statements on a general standpoint. you have to take in a ton of variables on both sides of the equation in order to determine that as a fact and even still it's def. on a case by case basis.

NIKE's creative ad team love to push boundaries and that is what makes their ads so great. One wonders if NIKE has been influenced by the character of ad man Brian in Queer as Folk or if the creators behind the Brian character were influenced by NIKE? :) For the negative comments, GEEISH! Just enjoy the fun and quit taking this stuff so damn seriously! A serious runner knows what to do/what not to do and all the stuff inbetween. If naked running is a reality and not just a company tongue in cheek campaign and someone wants to pursue it - GO FOR IT! In the words of Auntie Mame - "life is a banquet and most poor bastards are starving to death!"

I cannot help but wonder if this is just a ploy by Nike to draw attention away from the increasing focus on the deplorable conditions inside their shoe factories. Plus there have been plenty of news reports on the extremely low cost of making their shoes while the cost to the US consumer is quite high. Nike's excuse for moving all of their manufacturing to Asia was that it would keep prices down. Yet their prices have continued to increase well beyond inflationary rates.

Another lame marketing ploy by Nike. I applaud them in their effort but one of their ads turned me against their product. About 10 years ago, they ran an ad for their new trail running shoes. The text said something along the lines of "if you're not wearing these you might as well be in this" and a wheelchair was pictured. My mother was a very active person and after a car accident she had to live life in a wheel chair. Nike will never get another dime from me, which that might be the weekly salary for some kid in China. F' Nike

Toronto's huge Pride Parade has had totally nude marchers for several years (who are usually saggy-baggy), and a couple of gay running clubs as well. Maybe this year we can get the runners to do the parade nude!

That looks like so much fun. Things like this are healthy for society because they help to undo the ideas that religion has burdened us with. I'm talking about how nudity is immediately associated with sexuality and therefore is a shameful thing - which of course is complete nonsense. "Bare it all, run free..." It's a shoe designed for running that you are not supposed to wear socks under. As a runner, I can tell you by looking at it that it looks very comfortable. It is just a marketing campaign. And yes, your "boys and girls" really do need support. Any doctor will tell you to wear supportive garments for long distance running. And to the guy that said running damages your heart and your leg muscles... haha... talk to your doctor. Maybe if you're too old to *start* running it will damage your heart and legs, and yes it is hard on your knee joints. But everything is bad for you in one way or another. My doctor always says I'm in incredibly good health compared to the average adult, and my friends are all jealous of my body. Is that any reason to poo-poo all over anyone's lifestyle choice?

OK, about our 'boys', back in the day when we used to hunt for food (and before we domesticated ourselves) we would run fast to catch our prey and guess what? We did it naked. When you run, your 'boys' will pull up (we commonly call this shrinkage) and are cooled when they are covered in sweat and hit by the breeze. And when you are done, they will relax and drop again. In today's society they don't do that as much because we DO wear clothing that holds in heat and the 'boys' need to stay cool for production (high temps will kill your swimmers). So, Yes, when wearing clothes please wear support, but if you are running naked you really don't need to worry.

Family friendly events are held in communities all over the US. Some have permanent clubs, others offer monthly events in rented facilities.
