Drama in Austin
If you were lucky enough to be in Austin, Texas, Saturday night, you might have been able to witness a little bit of history as the top-seeded Longhorns beat Boston College by the score of 3-2. It only took 25 innings, or 7 hours and 3 minutes, the longest game in NCAA history.
I'm a huge baseball fan, I even love the college stuff, but damn that's a lot of baseball. I once caught an 18 inning game in the bleachers at Wrigley, and since they stopped selling beer at the end of the 7th, I was pretty much finished with it after 12 or 13. I'm sure you had to be a die-hard Texas or BC fan to watch 7 hours of baseball Saturday night. The game ended after 2 AM.
But the dramatics didn't stop there. Sunday, trailing Army 10-6 in the bottom of the 9th, the Longhorns put together 8 runs to take the regional title. Preston Clark hit a walk-off grand slam to end the game, and one hell of a baseball weekend in Austin.
Texas moves on to face TCU in the Super Regionals. And the Texas Christian University Horned Frogs better bring their best...and get ready for some drama in Austin.
That game was incredible. Keith Law also has a blog out on ESPN.com about why each team's manager should be fired for the way they potentially risked the pro careers of two relievers. They had each pitched the day before, and one threw an incredible 169 pitches!
