After her third round 6-3, 6-4 defeat of Italian Roberta Vinci at Wimbledon today Serena Williams was asked about the sudden death of Michael Jackson, someone she had met numerous times and knew.
Q. What did Michael Jackson mean to you personally? Would you think about dedicating today's victory perhaps?
SERENA WILLIAMS: No, I mean, he was a great guy, a complete icon. Words can't express my shock and horror, you know, just thoughts and prayers that go out to him and his family and just everything. It's just terrible, terrible, terrible thing.

1. The Manny Ramirez show is almost back. He'll be returning to the majors July 3rd at PETCO Park. I'll be there to witness the debacle. What makes me sick is that the Dodgers are organizing bus trips for fans to make the trip down to San Diego to see Manny. Way to take a stand against cheaters, guys. You railed against the Giants and Barry Bonds for years. Sell your soul much?
2. What in the hell is going on in Philadelphia? As of Monday, they were 23-9 on the road but an astonishing 13-22 at home! A first place team nine games under at home? Earlier this month, I listed the Phillies as a "pretender" because I didn't think they had the pitching to remain in first. They just got swept at home by Toronto (acceptable) and Baltimore (embarrassing). Only the Mets' ridiculous ER ward of injuries has kept New York from seizing the division.

Charger fans have heard this before, only this time they're cheering.
The man who threw 36 interceptions in 25 career games was detained at the U.S.-Canada border Wednesday. The former #2 pick in the NFL (behind Peyton Manning) had a warrant out for his arrest, stemming from drug and burglary charges. He had been given a Thursday deadline by the Texas DA to turn himself in, or the bounty hunters would be sent to British Columbia looking for him.
