Can Michael Come Out and Play?

Michael Vick Michael Vick was released from federal custody on Monday and will soon meet with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell to discuss his future in football. It seems likely that Vick will be reinstated into the NFL, but the issue is determining whether Vick will find himself a job. With Vick comes immense skill and a modest price tag, but a media frenzy that will follow the team into training camp.

Despite that fact, many teams should be lining up to sign this guy. Vick is a great talent, gifted runner, and a decent passer. Even though he is a felon, Vick is much better than a lot of starting quarterbacks right now and he could easily earn a starting role in several cities.

The Cleveland Browns should be knocking on Vick’s door when you take into consideration the log jam of inadequacy currently taking snaps. Derek Anderson and Brady Quinn have proved that they are unable to get it done for a franchise that desperately needs a good season.

Denver Broncos head coach Josh McDaniels needs to do something to help the squad after running Jay Cutler out of town and angering one of the best young wide receivers in Brandon Marshall. Vick would be an immediate upgrade over the bearded-wonder Kyle Orton and another number seven the Broncos fans can get excited about.

The Jacksonville Jaguars need something to light a spark under them following a lackluster year. Vick would prove to be a faster, better version of David Garrard on a team with little talent besides Maurice Jones-Drew. Vick would also help that franchise do something it has struggled with for the last several years: put rear ends in the seats.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers seem to collect quarterbacks like it’s a hobby. Vick would give big name-recognition to a crew of unaccomplished quarterbacks. The Buccaneers would become instant contenders in a tough NFC South division.

It doesn’t matter who signs Vick, he just needs to be given a chance. He should not be rejected from the NFL because he is a felon. This man is a darn good football player, and in a justice system that considers itself rehabilitative, we should let him do his job. Where ever he goes, he will be a dominant force on the football field.
