Eddie Izzard On The Run For Charity

Eddie Izzard Does this count as sports? Stunt? Spectacle? Yes, it’s all of the above, and all for a good cause, too. By the end of the day Thursday, the British stand-up comedian and actor Eddie Izzard will have run the equivalent of four marathons in four days, as he runs around the United Kingdom (UK) for the charity Sport Relief.

His 30-day run will take him from London, England to Cardiff, Wales to Belfast, Northern Ireland to Edinburgh, Scotland and back to London. If you’re not up on your UK geography, get out a map. It’s quite a substantial loop, totally more than 1,000 miles, which works out to about 30 marathons in a month.

Safin Making Good in LA, Reaches First Quarterfinal of the Year

Could LA be Marat Safin's tourney to take?

The towering Russian opened the event by playing a rematch of the 2000 US Open final against a sleeveless-wearing Pete Sampras and winning again. Then, he defeated newly-crowned Indianapolis champ Robby Ginepri in the opening round followed by a doubles win with compatriot Igor Kunitsyn. Phew.

Dara Torres Hits the Pool This Weekend In Rome

Dara Torres Dara Torres shocked the world in Beijing when she won three silver medals in the 2008 Olympic Games at the age of 41.  Her much heralded training and recovery routines demonstrated the drive of an athlete who was unwilling to give in to the progress of time, as she came back to become a 5-time Olympian and round out her lifetime Olympic medal count to an even dozen.  Her contribution to the gallery of the "got milk?" milk mustache ad campaign is one of the most impressive: a 41-year-old mother with abs that a twenty-something would envy.

Pittsburgh’s New Record Low

Pittsburgh Pirates Don’t cry too hard for the city of Pittsburgh. Their city has seen two Super Bowl victories in four years. They saw a Stanley Cup in 2009 and another finals appearance in 2008.

This success, however, has not translated to the Pirates, Pittsburgh’s Major League Baseball franchise. Today, the Pirates traded Jack Wilson and Ian Snell to the Seattle Mariners and Freddy Sanchez to the San Francisco Giants. These trades all but guarantee their record 17th straight losing season, a mark they will now hold by themselves.

The Waiting Is The Hardest Part

David Lee The New York Knicks ended their disappointing 2008-2009 season back on April 15 with a win over their cross-river rivals, the New Jersey Nets.  They finished with a record of 32 wins & 50 losses, the second worst record in the Eastern Conference, ahead of Washington (19-63).

During the off-season the team attempted to improve the team by adding one of several free agents including Jason Kidd and Grant Hill. In typical Knick fashion they came up empty.

Its FINALLY Over!

Brett Farve All I have to say is thank God! I have grown so tired of the question "Is Brett Farve going to come back?" Now its official, he has decided to stayed retired. The Vikings and the whole sports world can move on.

He is one of the top 3 QBs to ever suit up and will be a Hall of Famer. I love Farve, he was always great to watch and see him break multiple records. But, it was and had been time for him to step down and stop playing. He shouldn't have played last year, although he started good but down the stretch couldn't cut it.

The 'Real' Top 10 Most Thrilling Figure Skaters

Recently Sport's Illustrated put out a list of the Top 10 Most Thrilling. In my opinion, it's complete crap! My definition of thrilling and SI's are very different. I get the idea that whoever put this list together wasn't well informed on figure skating. So, I've decided to put together the 'Real' Top 10 Most Thrilling Skaters of all time:

Surya Bonaly 10. Surya Bonaly - This nine time French National Champ, five time European Champ, and three time World Silver Medalist was always thrilling. Her jumping ability was formidable, often times attempting a quad salchow in her programs. Bonaly was also known to skate off the cuff, delivering different choreography almost every time she performed a program. She ‘thrilled’ audiences when, knowing she was out of medal contention, threw in an illegal back flip during her 1998 Olympic free skate (a trick she often landed on one foot!).

The World Outgames taking place in Copenhagen, Denmark was struck by a violent attack this week.

A 31-year old man was arrested after a third bomb was thrown onto the track of Osterboro Stadium in a matter of half and hour. He was found carrying a backpack and another or so bombs according to Dean Koga, a member of the Seattle Frontrunners who was injured on his right hand by shrapnel. 2009 Preseason College Football Countdown: #1 Florida

Tim Tebow; Urban Meyer Will the Florida Gators reign supreme again in 2009? Well of course! If they don't, it will just be a huge upset and disappointment. Very few teams ever return the following season with their entire defense and two-deep intact. Add in the 7 returning starters on offense and the Gators are by far the most experienced defending National Champions in college football history.

On top of all that, Florida will be lead by senior superstar and former Heisman winning quarterback Tim Tebow. You just know that Tebow will get the job done and he and head coach Urban Meyer will once again be standing on a platform holding the National Championship trophy.
