If you follow women’s beach volleyball at all, you most likely pay attention during the summer Olympic Games. These past Olympic Games in Beijing did not disappoint, with Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh winning gold and capping off a record-shattering winning streak. These days Kerri Walsh is taking time off with a new baby and Misty May-Treanor is rehabbing an Achilles tendon injury she sustained while competing on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars.

Mark Leduc, the openly gay boxer who took home the 1992 Barcelona Olympic silver medal for boxing died Wednesday in a Toronto hospital. He was found in a local hotel sauna and is believed to have died as a result of heat stroke.
Leduc was a surprise medalist at the '92 games since many didn't believe he had a chance against better known boxing stars of the time. Mark Johnson, Leduc's brother-in-law said "He was shocked. I think he believed the reports they were saying that he wouldn't make it very far ... But he could throw like an ox and hit like a mule."
Shortly after winning the silver medal Leduc joined the professional ranks and won the 1993 Canadian super lightweight championship. However his professional career quickly ended when he retired after winning the championship.

I have a confession to make. I might be the worst sports fan in the world. I went to the Derby last year, and didn't see a horse. Let me be clear: I was at the Derby for all 13 races and never even saw the first hoof or jersey.

Man, I used to love Mike Tyson. Back in the late 80’s he was a blast to watch. But holy shit, how hard did that guy fall? It was like life gave him a knockout punch from Buster Douglas in 1990 and he still hasn’t hit the mat. In freefall constantly for 20 years - like a sweaty Brad Pitt in Fight Club… slow motion.
Luckily for us sports fans, we get to catch up on the ole ‘Baddest Man on the Planet’ this weekend when the movie Tyson comes out. (Maybe we'll see the softer, emotional side. HA!)

488. That’s the number of organized sporting events being held in America today, according to ESPN’s daily "Game Count". It changes day to day, depending on the number of events being held each day across the country.

ESPN ran an amusing sports poll recently, called the “State of Sports Union.” They polled readers on a slew of questions about sports and sports-related issues: What’s your favorite sport? Have you been to games this year? How many? Etc.
Now, since this was a self-selecting poll – readers of their website chose to respond – and it wasn’t a national, statistically random poll, it’s of dubious value. It certainly does, however, reflect the views of the 220,000 people who responded, for what that’s worth.
