Former Nebraska Wrestlers Talk. Watch And Vote!

In an interview on ESPN's "Outside the Lines", Paul Donahoe and Kenny Jordan got a chance to talk about their dismissal from the University of Nebraska wrestling team for posing naked on a gay website. Without going into too much detail, we learn about their previous incidents with the law, other teammates who may have done worse things than posing naked and a coaching staff possibly covering up further infractions.

Watch the video then take our poll and let us know what you think about the whole thing.

Fratmen Athletes To Appear On ESPN

It's not often that mainstream media, especially mainstream sports media, takes a story ripped from the gay porn headlines and plasters it all over their own pages (or in this case, TV screens). But, for those of you who have followed the somewhat hot, somewhat tragic, somewhat ridiculous story of the two University of Nebraska wrestlers who were kicked off the team last August after appearing, under pseudonyms (because are any of the names porn "stars" use their real names?!), on porn blog FratMen, get ready for a little more action.

Wrestler won’t apologize for gay porn photos. And why should he?

Donahoe-08 Last year, All-American wrestler Paul Donahoe (University of Nebraska) was booted from the University’s team after the University learned that Donahoe and a teammate posed nude for a gay website.

Paul had been on his own as a young man since high school, and did the shoot for the $4K that he earned.  He says he is straight (no reason to doubt him and it’s really quite irrelevant), and that he didn’t tell anyone about the shoot because he didn’t want the attention – just needed the money.

Women's wrestling: Randi Miller shoots and wins for U.S.

I told you I would follow this event, and local coverage made it difficult, but I hung in there. Good thing, because I got to see Randi Miller shoot her way to bronze in the freestyle wrestling event. Shooting is a term in wrestling meaning to plow an opponents legs. Not everyone likes her aggressive means.

Miller is a 2001 graduate of Arlington Martin, and is used to the kind of criticism received from her Canadian opponent, Martine Dugrenier. "It was a hard style," she said.  "Just pushing for me is not really wrestling."

Begs the question: when are women going to be allowed to compete in the Greco-Roman event?  Is Dugrenier's comment deserved in the sense that Miller's style has evolved past that of the freestyle competition?

The award for biggest Olympic drama queen goes to...(PART 2)

Ara Abrahamian (aka - Drama Queen) was stripped of his bronze medal by the International Olympic Committee for violating the spirit of fair play during the medal ceremony.

As previously reported, Ara had stepped off the podium and removed the bronze medal around his neck and dropped it on the wrestling mat and walked away not participating in the rest of the medal ceremony. The Swedish wrestler was upset about what he calls a "political" decision when a penalty call decided his semifinal match.

The IOC ruled Abrahamian's actions to be disrespectful to his fellow athletes. The stripped bronze medal will not be awarded to another athlete as his disqualification was not connected to the competition itself. Abrahamian has yet to apologize or express regret for his actions.

Sweden's Ara Abrahamian!

The Swedish wrestler threw down his Olympic bronze medal in protest after his quest for the gold medal ended in what his coach is calling "politics."

Abrahamian took the bronze from around his neck during the medal ceremony, stepped from the podium in a huff and threw down the bronze medal in the middle of the wrestling mat then walked off.

Ara announced after his display of poor sportsmanship that this would be his last Olympics as not winning the gold medal was a failure.

Greco-Roman wrestling-not for women in 2008?

Ali_bernard_50884677 (Getty Image)
There's hardly a reason to go into a dramatic lesbian outburst at my discovery that Greco-Roman Wrestling, is not open to women as an Olympic sport.  Oh, the inequality we still suffer!

I'm too old and fabulous and doing my own thing to give a good freak out, and besides, why should I, when Ali Bernard, Clarissa Chun, Randi Miller, and Marcie VanDusen, are headed to Beijing to throw themselves down on the mat, if not the Greco-Roman variety.  There is still no better way to get a leg up than by getting in there, and well, putting a leg up!

I'm carrying the torch for these four women who followed their hearts and their talent all the way to China, to do what they love, regardless of the barriers that remain.  They are called 'unknowns' right now, but not for long, I'm sure.  I plan to follow their Olympic dream all the way to the closing ceremonies. You go, girls!
